Nebula October 2025 Release: Smarter AI Summarization, New Announcement Feature, & Export Enhancements

With every release, Nebula continues to refine the eDiscovery experience with features that make review more transparent, communication more effective, and exports more precise. The October 2025 release is no exception, delivering three significant upgrades that strengthen efficiency.

This month’s Nebula’s triple release focuses on three areas: AI-powered document summarization, a reimagined “Announcements” feature, and enhanced control over native file exports. Here’s a closer look at what’s new:

Smarter and More Transparent Document Summarization

AI Document Summarization has already proven to be one of Nebula’s most impactful tools, helping teams cut through dense materials and quickly understand the essence of a document set. In October, this feature receives its most substantial update yet.

Key enhancements include:

  • Formatted Output: Summaries are no longer presented as plain text. Rather, they are structured into bolded sections and bullet points, making them easier to read and scan at a glance.

  • Compare View: Users can now place the source text side-by-side with the generated summary, providing instant context and a clearer validation path and resizable panes.

  • Citation Bubbles: Perhaps the most powerful addition, citation bubbles link summarized text back to its original source passage. Users can click on or hover to see exactly which parts of the document were used to generate each point.

  • Improved Viewer Experience: Enhancements like a resizable viewing pane, hover-based citation previews, and support for both documents and emails give reviewers a smoother, more adaptable workspace.

  • Error Messaging and Limits: Clearer tooltips and task status updates explain why certain documents may not be eligible for summarization (e.g., unsupported file types, oversized files, or missing connectors). This greatly reduces guesswork and makes the process far more predictable.

  • Export Integration: A new option allows AI-generated summaries to be included in metadata CSVs or load files, so summarized text can flow directly into downstream productions or analysis.

These updates ensure that AI-driven summaries are not only fast and accurate but also transparent and export-ready. Summarized files are now more proportional in length to the original source document, capturing the right level of detail without over-condensing.

With these upgrades, Nebula continues to set the standard for AI-powered document summarization, delivering summaries that are clearer and more defensible. This is just one of the ways that Nebula’s document summarization capabilities are best in class.

Announcements: A Reimagined Way to Keep Teams Aligned

What was once called “Message of the Day” has been rebuilt into a powerful new feature: Announcements. More than just a rename, this update transforms the experience into a modern broadcast hub designed to keep users informed.

Highlights include:

  • Rich Text and Media Support: A new rich text editor allows administrators to style content, insert links, and add up to three images per message. Visual, engaging updates are now easier than ever.

  • Flexible Scheduling: A redesigned calendar and time picker system prevents conflicts and ensures announcements appear exactly when intended.

  • User Dismissals: Announcements can be configured to allow temporary dismissal by users, making sure that they aren’t repeatedly interrupted by the same message. Dismissal windows are configurable for up to 72 hours.

  • Preview and Cloning: Admins can now preview announcements before publishing and clone existing ones to save time when posting recurring updates.

  • Streamlined Management: Expired messages are automatically moved into an archive tab, active announcements are visually highlighted, and disabled announcements can be toggled on and off.

The result is a system that balances the ability to communicate highly customized messages clearly, quickly, and flexibly. Teams stay aligned on deadlines, updates, or hotfixes, but without being overwhelmed by repetitive pop-ups or competing messages.

Export Natives Category Selector: Precision in Productions

Exports are an important step in eDiscovery, and Nebula’s new Export Natives Category Selector gives users greater control and consistency than ever before.

When choosing to export native files, users must now define which application categories are included, ensuring exports are intentional, precise, and aligned with case strategy.

Key points of note include:

  • Mandatory Selection: At least one category must be chosen, preventing accidental omissions.

  • Production vs. Non-Production Behavior: In production exports, missing images or placeholders will cause an error. In non-production exports, the process will succeed even if files are missing.

  • Placeholder Priority: Placeholders take precedence. If a placeholder specifies that a native should be produced, it will override other settings and ensure the file is included.

  • Consistency with Other Tools: The update aligns native exports with the same level of precision seen in other Nebula export features, such as Image Profiles.

This enhancement gives reviewers even greater control, reducing the risk of mistakes while making sure productions are defensible and predictable.
